What is content strategy? And why does a business need one?
Here at By Wanless, we love a narrative. And if you can’t add a narrative to a post about content strategy, then when can you?
In more normal times, we enjoy nothing more than bundling the kids into the car on a weekend and heading off somewhere exciting for a day filled with fun and adventure (read: another playpark with enough snacks to feed a small army).
But before we set off, we always consider a few things.
Where are we going? (Let’s face it, some form of playpark)
What route are we going to take? (The most direct, least painful way)
How do we get there? (In a car filled with popcorn and screams)
What if there’s traffic? (Deep breaths)What do we need to take with us? (Caffeine and patience)
How much fuel have we got? (Enough for a quick escape)
Do we need overnight bags? (Not if the kids are with us)
Do we need to pack some entertainment to keep the kids content? (Obviously, yes)
Do we have enough snacks? (Never)
There’s probably a mountain of other stuff we subliminally consider too, but you catch the drift.
And the same amount of planning needs to go into your content.
Your content strategy is your plan, your roadmap. It’ll keep you on the right track, it’ll sense check what you’re doing and, most importantly, provide something to refer to so you know whether or not you’re achieving what you need to.
